Community Coffee
We have welcomed over 50 new customers to Thursday coffee morning since we reopened in the newly refurbished Community Centre. Our average numbers are approximately 42 per week, of which a quarter are men and some occasional children.
We have raised money towards the Community Centre funds and held the Macmillan Coffee Morning which raised £100. We have a used book stall which has raised £51 so far this year for the NSPCC. Our current fundraising effort is towards Dogs for the Disabled.
If you haven't visited as yet why not pop in and sample our home-made cakes and savouries or enjoy a bacon roll or toasted teacake. You will be assured of a warm welcome. We are open from 9.30 am every Thursday.
The Wednesday Club
The Wednesday Club meets on alternate Wednesdays at 7.00 pm currently in the Bystander Pub.
The club, which used to be called 'the Young Wives Club' was set up 35 years ago. These days the age range of the ladies tends to be more like 50-90 years old. There are more than 40 members, mainly from the local community, and they are joined by their menfolk for special events.
There is a wide range of activities on offer to cater for a variety of interests. They include talks on subjects like local church affairs, Radio Oxford, Fairtrade, wildlife in the country garden and the Thames Valley Police Museum. Occasional visits away are organised such as a visit to the Malvern Show in Wiltshire. Special events include the Summer Supper, the annual dance with a live band and fish and chip supper, and the Christmas Social.
To join the Club you can simply go along on the Wednesday evening or phone Sue Davidson on 736779. The annual membership (as at Oct 2005) is £5 and each activity is an additional £2. Lifts can be organised for those who live locally.
